Design Shanghai

As its name implies, Design Shanghai focuses on all aspects of design and offer for sale a wide range of artworks. Pieces are divided in six different sections: Contemporary, Classic & Luxury, Collectibles, Kitchen & Bathrooms, Workplace and New Materials & Applications. They are showcased by leading galleries from China and the rest of the world. Exclusively allowed for people older than 16 years old, the fair gathers every year thousands of collectors, interior designers, curators, architects and private buyers. Design Shanghai is the perfect place for them to meet & network, to purchase exciting pieces and to spot new trends. The event takes place in the iconic and very convenient Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. Since its creation in 2014, Design Shanghai has grow to become one of the most important design trade shows in Asia. Part of the massive group Clarion events, the fair has a little sister since 2018, Design China Beijing.

What would you say is the DNA of Design Shanghai?

Design Shanghai remains the largest and most commercially successful fair in Asia. Since 2014, it has presented works from leading international and Chinese brands to a global audience. Key features at Design Shanghai include a new ‘Talents’ initiative in support of emerging designers, the Objects & Accessories section, and the Collectibles Hall featuring limited edition and collectible design from around the world. The show will also continue to support city wide cultural programming with Xintiandi Design Festival.

What type of galleries are chosen to exhibit, and why?

Design Gallery and limited-edition design pieces. Architects and interior designers are the biggest buyer in China for limited edition design pieces.

What is the price range of pieces? Who is the average buyer?

Average 200,000 RMB. Architects and Interior designers.
