Armenia Art Fair
Armenia Art Fair is the only international art fair in the country. Therefore, it has truly become a gathering event for art professionals, collectors and art enthusiasts of all kind. Attendees mostly are from the Caucasus region but there is a growing international audience. The fair is dedicated to modern and contemporary art and focuses on painting and photography. However, visitors can also view and purchase some nice pieces of sculpture. Creating Armenia Art Fair, the two founders – Nina Festekjian and Zara Ouzounian-Halpin – wanted to develop the regional art market and to promote the country as a center for art. Secondly, both founders deeply cared about helping young talent. That’s the reason why the application fees are affordable and an extensive support is provided for exhibitors. Finally, the fair takes place annually in June, a month after the nearby Tbilisi Art Fair.

What would you say is the DNA of Armenia Art Fair?
It’s summed up in our logo – Contemporary art at the crossroads of cultures. Armenia is a country with a rich history and some of the world’s best examples of ancient Christian architecture. The republic lies at the heart of a vast land mass, which has been witness to some of the world’s most momentous cultural events – the great migrations of the Steppe people to India, Europe, Persia and China – and home to the Kushan, Mongol and Hun empires. Its geographical position makes it the perfect location to re-establish its historic role as a hub for connecting the art markets of the Silk Road. This is why, three years ago, we decided that Armenia’s vibrant cultural scene would be the ideal location to create a thriving market for contemporary art and become the regional hub for the art market in the Caucasus and beyond
What type of galleries are chosen to exhibit, and why?
Armenia Art Fair accepts applications from galleries that focus on contemporary and modern art, including paintings, sculpture, photography and installation art. The Fair also accepts applications from artists via their representations. Our goal is to create an art platform that is flexible, affordable and accommodates both mainstream galleries and ones that operate more unconventionally, such as pop-up galleries. We also provide a real opportunity for curators to be able to sell and exhibit work which would be more difficult to do at the bigger, well-established, fairs.
What is the price range of pieces? Who is the average buyer?
Prices range from USD $3,000 – $10,000.
