JustLX
JustLX – Lisboa Contemporary Art Fair – is organized by Art Fairs, a Spanish company who founded as well JustMad in Madrid. Lisbon has become in recent years the most trendy destination in Europe, overtaking Berlin or Barcelona. Therefore the city had to have its own international contemporary art fair. That is why Just LX was created. The fair truly celebrates emerging artists and young galleries. As its elder sister, it intends to promote newly discovered talents, but this Lisbon edition focuses even more on emerging art and future stars. It gathers a very diverse audience, as seasoned collector looking for edgy pieces, first-time buyers starting a collection, museum curators, art dealers and of course all kinds of art lovers. JustLX is held each year in May in the LX Factory, one of Lisbon’s most significant hotspots – a trendy mix of shops, residents and office spaces housed in a former 19th century industrial site.

What would you say is the DNA of JustLX?
JUSTLX is a young fair, whose spirit is to present emerging art both Portuguese and international, promoting the beginning in collecting. We are interested in making people lose their fear of seeing art, visiting galleries and asking about the works, so that there can be a closeness to contemporary art in a relaxed and professional atmosphere. That is the target of our art fair.
What type of galleries are chosen to exhibit, and why?
We have galleries from many countries such as Portugal, Spain, France, Chile, Mozambique, United States… We are interested in young proposals of great artistic quality and with promising careers. We also focus on current issues, such as the ecological emergency.
What is the price range of pieces? Who is the average buyer?
In JUSTLX there are works from €1,000 to €15,000. We are interested in both the veteran collector, who has an important collection and has been buying art for many years, and the young person who is interested in buying his first work at a more moderate price. We believe that in our fair both have a place and can find the art they are looking for.
“In a relaxed, young, carefree environment, you can visit galleries and see works by top level artists.”

Who is the typical attendee of JustLX?
Our audience is wide, many young people interested in art but also older collectors looking to discover emerging artists. We are a fair of 30 galleries, close, high quality, and we accommodate those who already know the art or who want to approach for the first time.
What makes JustLX so special?
I think one of our hallmarks is our environment… We always have music, very pleasant outdoor areas… In the same relaxed, young, carefree environment, you can visit galleries and see works by top level artists. JUSTLX is a fair to immerse yourself in buying art without prejudice.
What are two other art fairs you would suggest?
I personally am very interested in different fairs, which propose new spaces to show art, such as Independent Brussels. In Madrid we celebrate JUSTMAD every February and it’s also a young art fair, with 60 international galleries, and in a professional and relaxed atmosphere.
