Superfine Washington
Held annually, Superfine Art Fair Washington is a lively and fun event that aims to make art more accessible and less stuffy. It has been called ‘DC’s Favourite Fair’ as it is well attended by local people who enjoy its open-minded approach to art. It appeals to young collectors and art-scene newbies who are interested in paintings, sculpture, photography, surreal works and performance pieces. Art is affordable at Superfine and popular with the general public. Alongside the exhibits is a programme full of film, politics, tours and talks offered as a vivid celebration of art in every medium. Superfine Art Fair runs 7 shows in total all over the USA – in Miami Beach, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington and Savannah. Co-founders Alex Mitow and James Miille push the limits of what the traditional art fair can be with a combination of the highest quality artists and affluent art-hungry collectors.

What would you say is the DNA of Superfine DC?
The amazing local artists! D.C. has a vibrant art scene that meshes perfectly with our contemporary-leaning fairs. We have over 82 exhibiting artists who inspire the art-hungry culture rich in Washington D.C. exemplifying all that Superfine stands for: a fresh, inclusive and receptive art landscape where eager buyers collect and connect with artists.
What type of galleries are chosen to exhibit, and why?
The exhibiting artists, collectives, and galleries all feature emerging to mid career level artists. We attract talented artists of all levels who have chosen to take control of their art career in a big way. The fairs are primarily artist driven, making it a reliable place to make art buying accessible, artist-forward, and fun.
What is the price range of pieces? Who is the average buyer?
Most of the work in the fair ranges from $500 to $2,500. Beyond this range, we have pieces for under $300 with the minimum at $100 and our price cap is $15,000 for any one work. The typical buyer is 25-45, actively buying art for their homes. Our model ensures newer collectors can feel comfortable buying from our artists.

Plus we are followed by avid art collectors looking for that breath of fresh air they can find at our fairs.
What strategy – physical as digital – will you adopt in medium to long term?
In addition to our in person fairs conscious adherence to Covid guidelines, we also have our online E-fairs featuring our exhibiting artists from each city. You can check out D.C.’s E-fair here!
