Salon du Dessin

The Salon du Dessin de Paris occurs during Drawings Week, an event that takes place in the French capital annually, in spring. The art fair was first launched in 1991 and has become an important international show dedicated solely to the art of drawing. The pieces exhibited cover the last six centuries, with some from the Renaissance, Old Masters drawings and contemporary works on paper. Emerging artists who are creating new ideas can be found as well. From large-scale items to miniatures, the 39 galleries display portraits, landscapes, posters, studies and cartoons. Drawings collectors, specialists, scholars and interested members of the public gather at the fair to view and purchase more than 1,000 drawings.

What would you say is the DNA of the Salon du Dessin?

The Salon du Dessin has become the world reference for drawing fairs and has established Paris as the drawing capitale in springtime. Its success can easily be measured by the growing numbers of events taking place at the same time, in institutions and in the art market. Each year, we aim to showcase as many foreign galleries as French ones. Also part of the show’s DNA is the annual collaboration with a museum exhibiting its collection within the fair, as well as the Drawing Week we have created, which means a lot to us.

What type of galleries are chosen to exhibit, and why?

Specialized galleries of international renown that will showcase high-quality artworks. The fair’s reputation really comes from the quality of the exhibitors.

What is the price range of pieces? Who is the average buyer?

The price range is very wide. Artworks are sold from €5.000 to several million euros.

“The Salon du Dessin is unique by its specilisation, its reliability, its iconic venue and its convivial atmosphere.”

Who is the typical attendee of the fair?

There is not one type of attendee. Visitors are art lovers, collectors as well as art market profesionals.

What makes the Salon du Dessin so special?

The Salon du Dessin is unique by its specilisation, its reliability, its iconic venue – the Palais Brogniart – and its convivial atmosphere.

What are two other art fairs you would suggest?

I would suggest Fine Arts Paris which takes place in the Carrousel du Louvre, every November, as well as the very qualitative fair TEFAF Maastricht.
